In this episode, I meet up with Adam Towlson (@workingclassboy) at a service station on the M40. Our location was based in part on finding a reasonable distance between us but also highlights how desperate Adam was to share his story and help others. Adam is from the West Midlands, he’s married and has two children. Adam’s mental health issues start when he threw himself into an excessive lifestyle which lead to years of illicit prescription drug and alcohol abuse. Although not fully recovered, Adam can now see how mental health can affect people in vulnerable positions as he works supporting people with mental health and substance abuse issues in the community. As you’ll hear, Adam’s honesty and experiences highlight just how mental health issues can lead to reckless decisions, but his passion to help others is testament to how far he’s come…
Man Talk, is my podcast that's helping to tackle men’s mental health and normalise the conversation.
I've battled with mental health issues for most of my adult life, but I'm now in a position where I feel strong enough to use my experiences to create a platform where men can talk openly about how mental health has effected them. Each episode sees me, chat to a range of guests who have experienced depression, anxiety, suicidal episodes, grief, PND and much more. Episodes are recorded on location, in the guests’ homes, the park, or in a local pub, thus setting the tone for a show that enables them to open up and help remove the stigmas and taboos that are associated with men’s mental health.
The show is produced in support of the charity, CALM (the Campaign Against Living Miserably).
Man Talk is available on iTunes and most of the regular platforms. Please subscribe to ensure you don’t miss an episode.
