In this episode, I’m in London with renowned editorial fashion hair stylist, Neil Moodie (@neilmoodie). Lots of people will know Neil for his work with Vogue Magazine amongst others, but what might come as a surprise is Neil’s battles with his mental health. Neil reached out to me after the launch of Man Talk and was keen to share his experiences with anxiety and depression, having suffered with both for most of his life; his father also suffered with his mental health and Neil was keen to discuss their relationship and how it impacted him growing up and beyond. In trying to deal with his issues, Neil has explored a number of different coping strategies and treatments, so it was great to hear his varied experiences (NB. he was keen to point out he’s also successfully used acupuncture for a number of years but missed this out during our chat). This is an incredibly honest, open and powerful interview from Neil, and I’m sure his experiences will resonate with many men out there…
Man Talk, is my podcast that's helping to tackle men’s mental health and normalise the conversation.
I've battled with mental health issues for most of my adult life, but I'm now in a position where I feel strong enough to use my experiences to create a platform where men can talk openly about how mental health has effected them. Each episode sees me, chat to a range of guests who have experienced depression, anxiety, suicidal episodes, grief, PND and much more. Episodes are recorded on location, in the guests’ homes, the park, or in a local pub, thus setting the tone for a show that enables them to open up and help remove the stigmas and taboos that are associated with men’s mental health.
The show is produced in support of the charity, CALM (the Campaign Against Living Miserably).
Man Talk is available on iTunes and most of the regular platforms. Please subscribe to ensure you don’t miss an episode.
